Southland Soldiers' Database
The Soldiers' Database currently lists the officers, non-commissioned officers and men who volunteered for service with the 8th Southland Company August 1914. Over the next nine months the database will be expanded to include all Southland soldiers who served at Gallipoli in 1915, and the future development of the database will include listing those Southlanders who enlisted in 1916, 1917 and 1918.
Each entry includes (where available) a photograph of the soldier, a profile and service history, a PDF copy of the personal file, and images and links (such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website, the Auckland War Memorial Museum's Cenotaph Database and Archives New Zealand).
The information on this database is compiled from military personnel files, embarkation rolls, casualty lists and war diaries of the New Zealand Expedionary Force, published casualty photographs and the two surviving 1915 Roll Books for the 8th Southland Infantry Company.
The database represents the culmination of some seventy years of data collection and collation by the Kia Mate ToaL Fight Unto Death project team.
